President Von Rothenberger called the regular scheduled meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008. Those in attendance were Von Rothenberger, Russell Phalen, Laura McClure, Joe Hubbard, Carolyn Schultz, Herk Conn, Mona Kennedy, and Dale Beams.
Minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. Russell presented the Treasurer’s report (copy attached). Joe moved to accept the report. Second by Herk. Motion carried. Russell also presented bills from Nex Tech, Osborne Office and Electronics, and Osborne Lumber Company.
Russell suggested the replacement of two storm windows located at the basement level. The windows are in extremely poor shape. Joe made a motion to have Russell check into the cost of getting the windows replaced. Mona seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Laura reported on the wireless Internet project. She made a motion to have Dale order necessary computer equipment to make the Carnegie Library a “hot spot” for the internet. Mona seconded the motion which carried.
Von presented his newest book “Osborne County, Kansas Burials 1866-2000”. Joe made a motion to purchase two copies of the book at $85.00 each for resale at $90.00 with no membership discount offered on the purchase of this book. Herk seconded the motion which carried.
Volunteers will be staffing the Carnegie Library during the summer months. Schedule is as follows: Monday 10-4 - Carolyn Schultz; Tuesday 1-5 Laura McClure or Von Rothenberger; Wednesday 10-4 - Mona Kennedy; Thursday 1-5 - Dale Beams; Friday 1-5 and Saturday morning - Herk Conn. Discussion was held concerning projects for the volunteers during their time working at the Carnegie.
Herk reported activities at the Carnegie Library during Memorial/OHS Alumni weekend went very well. Visitors were asked to sign up for a drawing of a complete set of Commemorative State Quarters donated by Eldon and Betty Yarnell. The lucky winner was Lyle Dixon of Manhattan. He also reported he is just about ready to “break 1900” on all his county record transcriptions.
The 95th Anniversary of the Osborne Public Library will be honored July 9th. Sharon Conway will be bringing several groups of children to tour the Carnegie on that day.
Von will look into the cost of a reprint of Osborne County 1870-1930, Volume 1 and 2. Laura made a motion to purchase all the books Original Land Owners of Osborne County from Osborne County Farmer and to reimburse the author her share of all the books. Herk second the motion which carried. Russell will take care of purchasing the books.
Dale reported on the website and said the site was getting numerous vistors from in and out of state. Vistors will become larger in number as the site becomes better known.
Prior to adjournment the group set a Work Day for July 10th at 2:00 p.m. A brown bag supper will be held before the 7:00 p.m. meeting that evening. Meeting adjourned.
