The Osborne County Genealogical & Historical Society met Thursday, January 10, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the Carnegie Library. Present were Von Rothenberger, Barbara Wilson, Dean and Esther Lamm, Dale Beams, Mona Kennedy, Russell Phalen, Joe Hubbard, Carolyn and Melvin Schultz.

President Von Rothenberger called the meeting to order and minutes of the December meeting were read and approved. Russell presented the Treasurer’s report (copy attached). Russ also presented the current bills. Joe Hubbard made the motion to accept the report and pay the bills. Second by Mona. Motion carried.

Barbara gave the Librarian’s Report for the month of December. There are 168 members. The Carnegie Library received $645 in donations and sold $41 worth of materials from the Gift Shop. Von shared two queries that had been received.

The Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society of Wichita has requested flyers listing books and information available for sale at the Carnegie. They need 100 copies for an upcoming workshop they are sponsoring. Joe made the motion that Von set up flyers listing what items are available. Motion carried.

Mona made a motion that the 2008 dues for the National Trust for Historic Preservation ($20.00) be paid. Joe second the motion. Motion carried.

Russ moved that all new memberships paid after July 1st be considered membership for the current and following year. Joe seconded. Motion carried.

Barbara reported the copy machine has major problems. Von has checked with Osborne Office on the cost of a color printer/copy/scanner capable of handling legal size paper. Joe moved this item be purchased. Following discussion he amended his motion to table the action until the February meeting when more information will be available.

Von requested Dale to check the computer for viruses and to use his discretion on obtaining an anti-viruses program.

Von will be contacting Carol Dixon of Manhattan to ask if she wishes to continue her annual donation which provides the Carnegie Library Internet service.

Von shared information concerning Ad Astra Publishing LLC, a new publishing company he has established along with David Readio. The firm publishes Kansas stories and Kansas authors. Currently the company is offering a pre-order special on three books compiled by Von. They are Osborne County Marriages (pre-1900); Osborne County Veterans and Osborne County Burials (up to 2000). Joe made a motion to pre-order the books in order to receive a special price. Mona seconded the motion. Motion carried. Von, Joe and Russell will check the Internet for an order form and proceed from there.

Von and Dale will begin work to set up the Osborne County Genealogical & Historical Society website.
